Madrid is strengthening its air connections with the United States with the launch of a new direct route to Newark Liberty International Airport, marking its third daily flight to the New York area. Operated by Iberia, the new service began on March 29 and departs from Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport at 7:35 p.m.
This new route complements the airline’s existing daily flights to John F. Kennedy Airport, offering travelers greater flexibility and improved access to New York. Newark’s proximity to Manhattan makes it particularly attractive for business travelers, providing faster connections to the city’s financial district.
The flight is operated by the Airbus A321XLR, a next-generation aircraft designed for medium-range transatlantic routes, with a capacity of 182 passengers. Iberia aims to strengthen its position as a key airline connecting Europe and the Americas, while expanding options for both leisure and corporate travel.
The launch coincides with the start of the summer season, during which Iberia has increased its capacity between Madrid and New York by 43% compared to last year, offering more than 350,000 seats. In total, the airline will operate 166 weekly flights between Madrid and North America this summer.
This expansion is part of a broader strategy to grow transatlantic connectivity. Following the introduction of a direct route to Orlando in October 2025, Iberia is also set to launch a new service to Toronto on June 13, with five weekly flights.
With these additions, Madrid continues to hold its position as a major hub for travel between Europe and North America, offering passengers more routes, greater convenience, and increased travel opportunities.
