Madrid will undergo major changes in 2026 as several large infrastructure projects reach key milestones. One of the most important will be the return to normal service on Metro Line 6 from December 20, 2025, after extensive renovation works. Throughout 2026, the line will operate normally while tests begin for future driverless trains, planned for 2027.
On the surface, major road projects will continue to reshape the city. The undergrounding of the A-5 is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026, transforming the former highway into a greener, more pedestrian-friendly urban corridor. At the same time, works on Castellana Park will move into a new phase, with traffic disruptions continuing until at least December and full completion expected in 2027.
Housing development will also move forward. In Madrid Nuevo Norte, the first urbanization works are expected to begin in mid-2026. Valdecarros will see the start of home construction as its initial phases near completion, while Los Berrocales is set to deliver its first residential developments, becoming the most advanced new neighborhood in the southeast.
Overall, 2026 will mark a turning point for Madrid, with key transport projects returning to normality, major works nearing completion and new neighborhoods beginning to take shape.
